Two Taubman Scholars are among 13 U-M faculty members elected to the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2024, the professional society announced March 27.
The AAAS, the world’s largest general scientific society, released the names of 471 members of the 2024 class, elected for their “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science, or its applications, are scientifically or socially distinguished.”
Kathleen Collins, MD, PhD, is an immunologist and HIV expert, whose research focuses on on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which virally infected cells establish a persistent infection. She is a Taubman Scholar and also head of the University of Michigan’s Medical Scientist Training Program.
Jack Parent, MD, is the William J. Herdman Professor of Neurology and Research Professor in the Michigan Neuroscience Institute at the U-M medical school. His current research focuses on applying stem cell biology approaches, including the use of human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC), human brain organoid and mouse models, to identify disease mechanisms and precision therapies for genetic neurodevelopmental disorders.
