John M. Carethers, MD, MACP, has begun his term as president of the Association of American Physicians (AAP). The association is a nonprofit, professional organization founded in 1885 for “the advancement of scientific and practical medicine.” The association is composed of members who are leading senior physician scientists and are competitively selected.
Dr. Carethers is a Taubman Scholar, as well as the John G. Searle Professor and Chair of the Michigan Medicine department of internal medicine. He also serves as a professor in the Michigan Medicine department of human genetics. His research focus is on colorectal cancer, particularly familial colon cancer syndromes.
